Principal Engineer - Firmware Development (SSD)

About the role

Micron is hiring a Principal Engineer for firmware development on SSD products. The role covers developing and testing firmware subsystems, ensuring they meet the performance, endurance, capacity, functionality and reliability requirements of the technical specification matrix, and providing detailed summaries of firmware development activity to management and the team.

Key responsibilities

• Develop firmware IP subsystems for SSD products that meet or exceed the technical specification matrix requirements.
• Develop firmware unit and functional tests to ensure quality, function and performance requirements are met at each integration milestone.
• Provide management, multi-functional team members and the firmware team with consistent, detailed and accurate summaries of firmware development activities.
• Build collaborative relationships with peers and management, and support team and personal development.
• Use AI-assisted tools to improve efficiency and quality, and share AI-enabled improvements within scope.

Required profile

• Masters or Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
• In-depth knowledge and at least 4 years of experience in embedded firmware development and debugging.
• More than 2 years of recent experience in storage, storage systems or a related technology is an advantage.
• Ability to work independently with minimal day-to-day supervision.
• Experience leading teams and/or mentoring engineers.

Required skills

• Programming languages such as C and Rust, and proficiency in troubleshooting firmware code.
• Experience with storage interfaces (PCIe/NVMe) and NAND flash is a plus.
• Python is an advantage.
• Ability to apply baseline digital fluency and role-appropriate AI literacy to use AI tools responsibly.
