Principal Engineer, Firmware Development (SSD)

About the role

Micron is looking for a Principal Engineer to develop and test firmware for its SSD products. The role covers firmware IP subsystems, unit and functional testing, and close collaboration with management and multi-functional teams. It also includes integrating AI-assisted tools into daily work.

Key responsibilities

• Develop firmware IP subsystems for SSD products that meet or exceed the technical specification matrix, covering performance, endurance, capacity, functionality and quality/reliability.
• Develop firmware unit and functional tests that ensure the firmware subsystem meets quality, functional and performance requirements at each integration milestone.
• Provide management, multi-functional team members and the firmware team with consistent, detailed and accurate summaries of firmware development activities.
• Build collaborative relationships with peers and management, and support team development and personal growth.
• Integrate AI-assisted tools and insights into daily work and share AI-enabled improvements within scope.

Required profile

• Masters or Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum 4 years of experience in embedded firmware development and debugging.
• More than 2 years of recent experience in storage, storage systems or a related technology is an advantage.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and experience leading or mentoring engineers.

Required skills

• Programming languages such as C and Rust, and programming tools and environments.
• Conducting analysis, designing, programming, debugging and modifying software, and resolving code problems.
• Storage interfaces such as PCIe/NVMe and NAND flash are a plus.
• Python is an advantage; baseline digital fluency and role-appropriate AI literacy are expected.
