Product Development Engineer - Semiconductor Equipment

About the role

KLA, a global leader in electronics for the semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem, is looking for a Product Development Engineer for its Surfscan group, which builds metrology and inspection tools for wafer, IC and equipment manufacturers. The role covers product development, engineering change management, systems engineering and test validation, with international travel.

Key responsibilities

• Support new product introduction and sustainment within the KLA Product Lifecycle (PLC) framework, delivering system architecture inputs, test plans, acceptance criteria and documentation
• Own and execute Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and Field Change Orders (FCOs) for product improvements, reliability fixes and customer requirements, validating changes through structured test and qualification plans
• Develop and run system-level test plans including validation, characterization and reliability testing, covering optics/sensing, precision motion and vibration, and electronics and control systems
• Lead root cause investigations of performance, reliability and field issues and drive corrective actions validated by engineering and field testing
• Support customer escalations including L4 issues, travel internationally to customer sites to diagnose and fix problems, and interface directly with customers
• Work with design, manufacturing, applications and service teams, support training and knowledge transfer, and feed technical documentation into future product improvements

Required profile

• Bachelor's, Master's or PhD in Mechanical, Electrical, Optical, Systems Engineering or a related field
• 5+ years of experience in semiconductor equipment, complex systems or a related high-tech industry
• Willingness to travel internationally up to about 30-50% for escalations and customer engagements
• Strong communication skills and ability to work in cross-functional, global teams
• Ability to work hands-on in lab and field environments and solve problems independently

Required skills

• System-level engineering across mechanical, electrical and optical subsystems
• Test plan development and execution, root cause analysis and troubleshooting, system integration and validation
• Familiarity with PLC/control systems, data acquisition and analysis, hardware debugging and lab testing
• Preferred: semiconductor capital equipment experience, field escalation support, PLC processes, stage-gate or product lifecycle engineering, and hands-on lab or field experience with complex hardware
