Job description
About the role
The School of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) is looking for a Project Officer to support research and development in surface engineering and heat exchangers for energy-efficient thermal systems. The work covers the development, optimization and characterization of engineered surfaces and surface treatments to improve heat-transfer performance, working closely with the Principal Investigator, the research team and industry collaborators.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct R&D in surface engineering, system cooling and heat exchangers, including ultrascalable methods to enhance flow boiling of refrigerants
- Develop and optimize engineered surfaces and surface treatment processes for better thermal performance
- Design, fabricate and characterize surface-engineered components and prototypes
- Plan and run thermal-fluid experiments to evaluate heat-transfer and system performance
- Develop, modify and operate test rigs, instrumentation and measurement systems
- Analyse experimental data and identify opportunities for process and design optimization
- Support scale-up of laboratory processes toward larger prototypes, and support prototype installation, testing and field validation with industry partners
- Prepare technical reports, research papers, presentations and other project deliverables
Required profile
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Materials Science, Manufacturing or Aerospace Engineering, or a related field
- Basic knowledge of materials science, heat transfer and surface chemistry and engineering; exposure to two-phase flow and heat transfer is an advantage
- Experience in surface engineering, surface modification, chemical processing, electrochemical techniques or micro/nanostructured surfaces is an advantage
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, able to work independently and manage several research tasks
- Good teamwork, communication and writing skills in a multidisciplinary research setting
Required skills
- Familiarity with chemical treatment, alloy development and material characterization
- Preferred: microstructural characterization by optical microscopy, SEM, XRD, thermal analysis and mechanical testing
- Preferred: experimental design, data acquisition and analysis, and CAD and design for additive manufacturing
