Job description
About the role
The School of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology at NTU Singapore, in partnership with Wageningen University & Research, is seeking a motivated researcher to advance high‑throughput phenotyping for indoor farming. You will work in a multinational team focused on sustainable, data‑driven food production.
Key responsibilities
- Develop high‑throughput phenotyping protocols for nutrient deficiency, transpiration, biomass, and produce quality using automated transpiration measurement, RGB side‑view imaging, 3D imaging, and chlorophyll‑fluorescence imaging.
- Create analysis pipelines for large phenotyping data streams, applying AI‑based image analysis and predictive modelling to assess abiotic and biotic stress tolerance.
- Build prediction models that estimate yield and quality from phenotyping data for cultivation management and genotype selection.
- Set up validation experiments with CRISPR or EMS mutants generated in related work packages.
- Document findings and contribute to scientific reports, publications, and presentations.
Required profile
- Research Associate: Master’s degree in Plant Biology, Bioinformatics, Data Science, Statistics, or Image Analysis.
- Research Fellow: PhD in the same or related fields.
- Demonstrated understanding of plant phenotyping and large‑scale data analysis; experience with AI tools for image analysis is preferred.
- Strong analytical abilities and capacity to work both independently and collaboratively.
Required skills
- High‑throughput plant phenotyping
- Imaging techniques (RGB, 3D, chlorophyll‑fluorescence)
- AI / machine‑learning for image analysis
- Predictive modelling
- CRISPR and EMS mutagenesis
- Data analysis and statistical methods
What we offer
- Opportunity to contribute to Singapore’s food‑security goals
- Collaboration with leading academic and industry partners
- Access to state‑of‑the‑art indoor farming facilities
