Research Associate – Metal Additive Manufacturing

About the role

The Singapore Centre for 3D Printing (SC3DP) at NTU is seeking a highly motivated Research Associate to support an industry‑collaborative project on metal additive manufacturing. The role focuses on advanced material characterization, microstructural analysis, and mechanical property evaluation of 3D‑printed samples, helping to solve practical engineering challenges and translate research outcomes to industry.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct microstructural analysis using SEM, EBSD, XRD, and optical microscopy.
• Perform tensile, fatigue, hardness, and impact testing on printed components.
• Analyze testing data, create visualisations, prepare detailed technical reports and present findings to industrial partners.
• Assess the impact of post‑processing on material properties and identify defects such as porosity or lack of fusion.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Materials Science & Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or a closely related field.
• Extensive hands‑on experience with advanced material characterization techniques and mechanical testing equipment.
• Deep understanding of structure‑property relationships in metallic systems.
• Strong analytical ability to interpret complex data and independently produce comprehensive technical reports.
