Research Fellow (Electroorganic Synthesis)
ntu · NTU Main Campus
Job description
About the role
The School of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology (CCEB) at NTU is recruiting a Research Fellow for Organic Electrosynthesis. The post supports the development of advanced heterogeneous nanocatalysts for organic electrosynthesis, focusing on designing, synthesizing and characterizing novel nanomaterials for efficient electrocatalytic transformations, while also elucidating reaction pathways and active-site mechanisms. The fellow leads advanced material characterizations, drafts high-impact research papers and mentors undergraduate and graduate students.
Key responsibilities
- Synthesize, functionalize and optimize heterogeneous nanocatalysts for organic electrosynthetic reactions.
- Characterize nanocatalysts using XRD, XPS, TEM/SEM, FTIR, Raman, NMR and BET.
- Design, run and optimize electrochemical experiments (CV, LSV, chronoamperometry, controlled-potential electrolysis) to assess performance, selectivity and stability.
- Elucidate reaction pathways, active-site structures and structure-property relationships.
- Analyze data, track project deliverables, write progress reports and present findings to collaborators and funders.
- Draft manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals and contribute to patent applications where applicable.
- Maintain laboratory safety, support equipment upkeep and mentor research students.
Required profile
- Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering or a related field.
- Strong publication record in reputable peer-reviewed journals; excellent written and verbal communication.
- Experience mentoring junior researchers and managing several research projects at once.
- Ability to work independently and troubleshoot complex experimental setups.
Required skills
- Heterogeneous catalyst synthesis, nanomaterial chemistry and organic electrosynthesis/electrochemistry.
- Hands-on electrochemical techniques and characterization tools (XRD, XPS, TEM, SEM, EDX, NMR, GC-MS, HPLC).
- In-situ/operando spectroscopy is an advantage.
