Research Associate – Vision-Language & Causal Reasoning

About the role

The College of Computing & Data Science at Nanyang Technological University seeks a Research Associate to advance a Vision‑Language project focused on visual reasoning, vision‑language integration, and causal reasoning.

Key responsibilities

• Develop visual reasoning methods for vision‑language tasks such as visual question answering, visual dialog, visual commonsense reasoning, visual captioning, object detection and video analysis.
• Design and implement causal reasoning tools, including causal inference, counterfactual analysis and causal discovery.
• Research and develop deep learning models for computer‑vision applications.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electronics Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum three years of relevant research or industry experience.
• At least one peer‑reviewed publication in a top‑tier venue (e.g., CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, NeurIPS, ICML, AAAI, TPAMI, IJCV, TIP, TMM).
• Strong understanding of machine‑learning, deep‑learning, computer‑vision and causal inference theory.
• Good written and oral communication skills in English.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Python and at least one deep‑learning framework (Tensorflow, Pytorch, MXNet).
• Experience with MATLAB, R or C/C++ for algorithm development.
• Hands‑on experience with visual‑reasoning and causal‑inference research projects.
