Job description
About the role
The School of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) at NTU is looking for a Research Engineer to conduct research on the design, fabrication, characterization and optimization of next-generation halide perovskite materials and devices. The role focuses on developing high-performance perovskite-based optoelectronic technologies, investigating structure-property-performance relationships and improving device stability, scalability and functionality for applications such as solar cells, photodetectors and smart adaptive devices.
Key responsibilities
- Take part in research projects with the team to meet project deliverables on time.
- Plan and run experiments, collect and analyze data, and report results.
- Set up, operate, troubleshoot and maintain synthesis, thin-film deposition, device fabrication and characterization equipment.
- Develop new materials, device architectures, fabrication processes and characterization methods to improve performance, stability and scalability.
- Collaborate with academic, industrial and funding partners on research and project deliverables.
- Mentor junior researchers, students and lab personnel in techniques, data analysis, safety and best practices.
- Help prepare proposals, grants, technical reports, patents and publications.
- Maintain lab facilities, equipment, consumables and inventory, including procurement, vendor liaison and safety compliance.
- Produce technical reports, presentations and documentation, and present results at meetings, conferences and workshops.
- Support intellectual property generation, technology transfer and industry engagement where appropriate.
Required profile
- Bachelor's degree in Materials Science and Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Electrical or Chemical Engineering, Nanotechnology or a related field.
- At least 4 years of research, laboratory or industrial experience in semiconductor materials, thin-film technologies, optoelectronic devices, photovoltaics or related fields; Masters graduates may be considered with fewer years.
- Hands-on experience in perovskite synthesis, thin-film processing, device fabrication, micro/nanofabrication and optoelectronic characterization.
- Prior experience in halide perovskite research, solar cells, photodetectors, LEDs or similar optoelectronic devices is highly desirable.
Required skills
- Familiarity with spin coating, thermal evaporation, sputtering, glovebox processing, ALD and encapsulation is advantageous.
- Experience with XRD, SEM, AFM, UV-Vis, PL, solar simulators, EQE and transient measurements.
- Data analysis software such as Origin, MATLAB, Python or LabVIEW.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills, and project management abilities.
