Research Engineer/Fellow (Security & UX)

About the role

The Singapore Institute of Technology seeks a Research Engineer/Fellow to lead user research and policy development on harmful user‑generated content in virtual worlds. This role is part of the Centre for Immersification and contributes to a national initiative on Online Trust and Safety.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the research project with the PI, Co‑PI and team to meet all deliverables.
• Design and execute surveys and interviews, recruit participants, and perform statistical and thematic analysis.
• Publish high‑quality research findings in international peer‑reviewed conferences and journals.
• Design scenario‑based experiments to test user responses to new reporting mechanisms.
• Draft comprehensive security guidelines and reporting frameworks for virtual‑world platforms and regulators.
• Validate guidelines through expert panels and user groups to ensure cross‑cultural relevance.
• Carry out risk assessments and ensure compliance with work, safety and health regulations.

Required profile

• Relevant competence in cybersecurity, human‑computer interaction, communication or psychology.
• Master’s or Ph.D. in HCI, Computer Science, Cyber Security, Engineering or related field (advantageous).
• Strong interest and passion for cybersecurity.
• Proven ability to manage end‑to‑end research projects and publish results.
• Experience with public‑policy research and work with adolescent participants is a plus.

Required skills

• Expert proficiency in mixed‑methods research (qualitative & quantitative).
• Experience with systematic literature reviews, survey design, semi‑structured interviews and experimental study design.
• Familiarity with statistical analysis software such as SPSS, SAS or R.
• Ability to use qualitative analysis packages for thematic analysis.
