Research Fellow – Advanced Additive Manufacturing

About the role

The Singapore Centre for 3D Printing (SC3DP) at NTU seeks a Research Fellow to lead experimental and computational studies on the corrosion behaviour of metallic parts produced by laser powder bed fusion (LPBF). The role focuses on linking processing conditions, microstructure, and durability to develop robust in‑situ and post‑processing strategies.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with PhD students and research staff to investigate corrosion‑resistant additively manufactured metals.
• Design and execute electrochemical tests and comprehensive corrosion characterisation.
• Analyse microstructure, phase constitution, surface condition and defects to establish process‑structure‑corrosion relationships.
• Optimise LPBF parameters and post‑processing treatments to enhance corrosion resistance.
• Assess the impact of reduced support structures and adaptive processing on part quality and corrosion performance.
• Contribute to research proposals, technical reports and project deliverables.

Required profile

• PhD in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
• Strong background in metallic materials processing and metal additive manufacturing.
• Hands‑on experience with advanced characterisation techniques (TEM, SEM, XRD, XPS, etc.).
• Proven publication record with at least two first‑author journal papers.
• Ability to plan and conduct research independently and solve problems systematically.
