Research Fellow (Chemistry)

About the role

The Nicewicz group at the School of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology (CCEB) at NTU Singapore is hiring a Research Fellow to advance research into novel, broadly useful sustainable molecular transformations for synthesizing complex molecules using single-electron redox processes. The position is based at the NTU Main Campus.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and optimize novel organic transformations and synthetic methods based on single-electron redox processes.
• Carry out photochemical and radiochemical reaction development, including screening, optimization and scope studies.
• Investigate reaction mechanisms through experimental design, data analysis and interpretation of results.
• Supervise and mentor graduate and undergraduate researchers, including guidance on research activities and laboratory techniques.
• Present findings at group meetings, seminars and scientific conferences.
• Prepare research reports, manuscripts for publication and other scholarly outputs.
• Contribute to grant proposals and future research funding applications.
• Maintain accurate research records and comply with laboratory safety and regulatory requirements.

Required profile

• PhD in Chemistry or a related field.
• Demonstrated expertise in synthetic organic chemistry and hands-on experience in reaction development.
• Experience in photochemistry, photocatalysis, radiochemistry or mechanistic studies is an advantage; entry-level candidates with relevant research experience are welcome.
• Strong written and oral communication skills and ability to present scientific data.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary research environment.
• Experience mentoring or supervising students and junior researchers is an advantage.
• Strong organizational and project management skills, with a meticulous, proactive approach.
• A strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals is desirable.
