Research Fellow – CO2 Capture Sorbent Development

About the role

The Nanyang Environment and Water Research Institute (NEWRI) at NTU seeks a Research Fellow to lead the development of sorbent materials for CO2 capture from real combustion flue gas. The role involves full‑cycle research, from laboratory experiments to scale‑up, and contributes to the institute’s climate‑resilience and circular‑economy objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate project execution and communication among collaborating parties.
• Design and conduct experiments, troubleshoot setups, and analyse data in partnership with the PI and Co‑I.
• Develop and scale up calcium‑based sorbent materials for CO2 capture in circulating fluidized beds.
• Manage day‑to‑day operation of reactor apparatus and procure raw materials and equipment.
• Write and publish research papers and present findings to collaborators, funding agencies, and the scientific community.
• Train research assistants and produce progress, final, and recommendation reports.

Required profile

• PhD in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
• Experience developing CO2 sorbents, especially calcium‑based sorbents for fluidized‑bed applications.
• Strong record of peer‑reviewed publications is advantageous.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
