Research Fellow - Emission Control of Ammonia Combustion
ntu · NTU Main Campus
Job description
About the role
The Energy Research Institute @ NTU (ERI@N), a pan-university research institute founded in 2010 focused on systems-level research for tropical megacities, is hiring a research fellow to support work on emission control of ammonia combustion. The role involves combustion experiments, experimental databases, emission pathway analysis and low-emission ammonia combustion methods.
Key responsibilities
- Validate detailed and skeletal chemical reaction mechanisms against experimental databases on combustion and emission characteristics.
- Develop and apply Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) models to study intermediate reaction pathways and pollutant formation in hydrogen-ammonia and hydrocarbon-ammonia systems.
- Deploy high-precision skeletal mechanisms in engine-scale simulations to capture combustion behaviour and pollutant evolution.
- Build predictive modelling frameworks describing the chemical evolution of carbon, hydrogen and nitrogen species during ammonia-based fuel combustion.
- Analyse and quantify pollutant formation pathways, focusing on CO, NOx, N2O and unburned NH3.
- Generate modelling insights and tools to support the design and optimisation of low-emission, ammonia-fuelled propulsion technologies.
Required profile
- PhD in Mechanical or Vehicle Engineering or a related field.
- 3 years of research experience in combustion, emissions or thermofluid modelling.
- Publication track record (one publication is a reference).
- Proficiency in English and good communication skills for research work.
Required skills
- Expertise in numerical simulation methods, especially CFD and chemical kinetics modelling.
- Familiarity with detailed and skeletal chemical reaction mechanisms in multi-fuel combustion systems.
- Programming tools such as Python, MATLAB or C++ for data processing and model development are preferred.
