Research Fellow (Integrated Polaritonic Devices)
ntu · NTU Main Campus
Job description
About the role
The Research Fellow at NTU's National Centre for Advanced Integrated Photonics (NCAIP) supports the development of integrated polaritonic devices and waveguides, covering long-range polariton propagation, low-energy switching, few-particle modulation of condensate nonlinearities, integrated circuit functions and coupling with on-chip detection and readout. The role involves advanced optical spectroscopy and characterization, working closely with device integration teams.
Key responsibilities
- Design, fabricate, assemble, optimize and experimentally characterize polaritonic waveguides, polariton lasers, cavity/waveguide networks and circuit elements.
- Develop and operate optical spectroscopy setups: real-space/Fourier-space imaging, polarization-resolved spectroscopy, time-resolved photoluminescence and electroluminescence, at room temperature and/or cryogenic conditions.
- Investigate low-power and few-particle effects such as condensate nonlinearities, low-energy switching, single/few-polariton emission, photon correlations and polaritonic logic or routing.
- Develop long-range waveguiding platforms, propagation measurements, electrical or optical routing schemes and integration with single-photon detection.
- Collaborate with device integration teams and CDPT partners on fabrication, assembly, testing and prototypes.
- Maintain research laboratories and equipment in line with safety protocols.
- Analyse data, write publications and reports, present at conferences, and help with grants and IP.
Required profile
- PhD in Physics, Optical/Photonic Engineering, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Relevant research experience in experimental optics, optical spectroscopy, photonics, exciton-polariton physics, nonlinear optics, semiconductor optics or polaritonic waveguides.
- Proven publication record in reputable international peer-reviewed journals.
- Hands-on experience designing, aligning and operating optical systems and characterization setups.
Required skills
- Scientific programming and data analysis (e.g. Python/Matlab)
- Optical system design, alignment and operation
- Strong communication skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively
