Research Fellow – Multifunctional Fibres

About the role

The School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Nanyang Technological University seeks a Research Fellow to lead advanced‑materials programmes focused on multifunctional fibres, 2D material coatings, and thermal‑management solutions. The successful candidate will develop high‑performance composite fibres with enhanced electrical, mechanical and thermal properties for aerospace and next‑generation electronics.

Key responsibilities

• Design, fabricate and post‑process multifunctional composite fibres, including carbonisation, CVD/infiltration, BN and MXene coating, and fibre spinning.
• Formulate functional inks for fibre coating and direct spinning; optimise coating and spinning processes.
• Develop high‑thermal‑conductivity composites, phase‑change and thermal‑interface materials for efficient heat dissipation.
• Perform material characterisation (SEM, TEM, AFM, Raman, XPS, UV‑Vis) and thermal/electrical property measurements.
• Design experiments, optimise process parameters, benchmark material performance and evaluate EMI‑shielding.
• Prepare technical reports, deliver presentations for project milestones and mentor PhD students.

Required profile

• PhD in Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Materials Science, Physics or a related discipline.
• Proven experience operating CVD systems for 2D and nanomaterial growth.
• Hands‑on experience with nanomaterial characterisation techniques.
• Strong management, teamwork and communication skills in English.
• High sense of responsibility for research outcomes.
