Research Fellow (Photo(electro)catalysis)
ntu · NTU Main Campus
Job description
About the role
The Andrei laboratory within the School of Materials Science and Engineering at NTU develops unconventional approaches to renewable energy harvesting, including solar-driven conversion of small molecules into fuels and chemicals. The lab designs (photo)electrocatalysts, uses moisture encapsulation to improve stability and works on reactor engineering. It is seeking a Research Fellow to develop photo(electro)catalytic systems for unassisted solar fuel and chemical synthesis, focusing on PEC artificial leaves and nanoparticle photocatalysts for water splitting, CO2 reduction and oxidative organic reactions.
Key responsibilities
- Contribute to research projects with team members so that deliverables are completed.
- Produce high-quality reports and documents summarising research findings.
- Develop a bespoke photo(electro)catalytic characterisation setup and protocols for product analysis.
- Maintain equipment and supplies, including procurement and liaison with suppliers.
- Collaborate with internal and external partners on sustainable technologies.
- Mentor junior group members daily.
- Help set up a state-of-the-art photo(electro)catalytic characterisation platform (solar light simulator, potentiostat, custom PEC cell, gas chromatograph).
- Establish and maintain reproducible procedures for gas and liquid product quantification, and benchmark demonstrator devices outdoors.
Required profile
- PhD in Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or a related field.
- Essential: proficiency in perovskite device or oxide photoelectrode fabrication, or in nanoparticle photocatalyst, quantum dot or nanocrystal synthesis.
- Highly desirable: expertise in photo(electro)catalytic experiments, catalyst synthesis, and organic and gas product analysis (GC, NMR, HPLC).
- Desirable but not essential: 3D CAD rendering, reactor engineering or organic synthesis.
- Ability to work independently and in a team, with good organisational and time-management skills.
