Research Fellow / Research Scientist (Grid Modelling)

About the role

The Energy Research Institute @ NTU (ERI@N), established in 2010, works on energy transition through research, demonstration and partnerships. It is recruiting a Research Fellow / Research Scientist in grid modelling to study grid congestion, voltage stability and frequency stability caused by rising distributed energy resources such as rooftop solar, EV charging and increased household power use from air-conditioning, induction cooking and elevators.

Key responsibilities

• Develop grid models of landed estates using tools such as PSCAD and PSSE.
• Create an assessment framework to identify areas with different levels of network hosting capacity and potential constraints, initially focusing on low-voltage distribution networks.
• Produce a heat map of the low-voltage distribution grid showing constraints and their expected evolution over time.
• Engage with researchers and professors in NTU schools and colleges.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree (PO and Research Assistant equivalent) or Master's degree (Research Associate/Scientist equivalent) or PhD (Research Fellow and above); power systems engineering or a related field.
• 3 years of relevant experience or hands-on power systems engineering experience preferred.
• Good written and oral communication skills.
• Interpersonal skills: solving problems under tight deadlines, meticulous attention to detail, good organisation and time management.

Required skills

• Familiarity with grid modelling tools such as PSCAD, PSSE, PowerFactory or equivalents.
