Research Fellow - Zeolite Synthesis and Catalyst Development

About the role

The Energy Research Institute @ NTU (ERI@N), established in 2010, is a pan-university research institute focused on systems-level research for tropical megacities, covering the energy value chain from generation to end-use solutions. ERI@N runs interdisciplinary research programmes and living labs and testbeds. The institute is looking for a Research Fellow to work on zeolite synthesis and application, focusing on zeolite materials synthesis, catalyst preparation, performance evaluation and mechanistic understanding through detailed characterisation.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out hydrothermal and solvothermal synthesis of zeolites, and catalyst loading and modification techniques such as impregnation and ion exchange.
• Design formulations and optimise processes for zeolite-based catalysts, including control of crystallisation conditions, screening of structure-directing agents and post-treatment processes.
• Set up and maintain catalyst performance evaluation systems, including fixed-bed and batch reactors, and systematically assess catalyst activity, selectivity and stability in thermal catalytic reactions such as hydrogenation, dehydrogenation, hydrodeoxygenation and isomerisation.
• Perform catalyst characterisation.

Required profile

• PhD in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials chemistry or a related field.
• At least 2 years of relevant experience in zeolite synthesis and related catalyst development, with hands-on experience running thermal reactions.
• Good communication skills.
