Resident Physician I – Alexandra Hospital

About the role

Resident Physicians and Senior Resident Physicians are experienced doctors who have completed a recognised postgraduate qualification and the three‑year basic postgraduate specialist training. They are expected to take on substantial responsibilities beyond those of Medical and House Officers.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise overall ward operations and patient care, demonstrating strong diagnostic and clinical management.
• Oversee and teach House Officers, Medical Officers and Trainees.
• Review all cold referrals not assigned to a specific consultant.
• Manage urgent referrals during night duty and inform the on‑call Consultant of complex cases.
• Conduct night ward rounds and be available outside office hours when on call.
• Write and sign consultation referral letters in emergencies and after hours.
• Compile Confidential Mortality Reports for submission to the Chairman Medical Board.
• Represent the ward or hospital at Coroner’s inquests or medico‑legal hearings when required.
• Participate in departmental ward rounds, teaching seminars, and case conferences.
• In surgical specialties, perform elective and emergency operations within permitted complexity and teach basic operative procedures to Medical Officers.

Required profile

• Medical staff who have completed basic specialist training and hold a recognised postgraduate qualification.
• Registered with the Singapore Medical Council, with at least one year of housemanship and three years as a Medical Officer.
