Senior Engineer - Firmware Development (SSD)

About the role

Micron is hiring a Senior Engineer for Firmware Development (SSD) to support the development, validation, optimization and debugging of high-performance SSD controller firmware for volatile and non-volatile memory solutions. The role covers firmware design and testing, failure analysis and issue isolation, and contributes to quality, reliability, performance and power-efficiency goals. It also involves mentoring less experienced engineers and working with cross-functional teams.

Key responsibilities

• Develop firmware IP subsystems for SSD products meeting performance, endurance, capacity, functionality, quality and reliability requirements.
• Carry out firmware development, integration, bench testing, debugging and validation for SSD controllers and storage products.
• Perform root cause analysis, failure triage and defect isolation, document findings and support corrective actions.
• Develop and maintain unit, functional and integration tests.
• Work with hardware, validation, system and product engineering teams to resolve complex issues and improve product readiness.
• Analyze firmware behavior and support improvements in performance, latency, power consumption and SoC complexity.
• Provide technical updates, project status reports and development summaries to management and stakeholders.
• Mentor junior engineers and technicians, and share knowledge and best practices.
• Use AI-assisted tools responsibly and contribute to continuous improvement.

Required profile

• B.Sc. or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent.
• Over 3 years of relevant experience in firmware or embedded systems development using C.
• Structured problem-solving, clear technical communication, cross-functional collaboration and ability to work independently.
• Preferred: experience with SSD products, storage systems, NAND flash memory, PCIe and NVMe interfaces, and mentoring capabilities.

Required skills

• Embedded firmware development in C and other high-level languages such as Python.
• Firmware debugging, code analysis, root cause investigation and validation.
• Low-level software development, including assembly language programming.
• Preferred: Python programming and automation experience.
