Senior Research Fellow - CFD & Building Energy Modelling

About the role

The Energy Research Institute @ NTU (ERI@N), established in 2010, is a pan-university research institute focused on systems-level research for tropical megacities, covering the energy value chain from generation to end-use solutions. ERI@N runs interdisciplinary research programmes and living labs and testbeds. The institute is looking for a Senior Research Fellow to develop a CFD engine and building energy models, and to take part in the development and implementation strategy of a cloud AI-based framework for business valuation.

Key responsibilities

• Develop new CFD solutions in partnership with academic and technology partners
• Identify new research and technology development priorities
• Provide CFD technical leadership to new research programs
• Work with colleagues to develop OpenFOAM methods, processes and workflows
• Develop and implement mesh, solver and post-processing methodologies to improve CFD tool efficiency
• Support and optimise CFD tools, including monitoring and resolving issues
• Ensure CFD simulations are aligned with the capabilities of commercial tools
• Analyse energy usage across different scenarios, write reports and map total energy usage
• Propose actionable options, answer team questions, publish papers and support documentation

Required profile

• PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Applied Physics or a related field
• At least 3 years of relevant experience in CFD development
• Good written and oral communication skills
• Ability to work at a fast pace and react quickly to new information
• Soft skills such as information visualisation and interaction design

Required skills

• Familiarity with CFD solvers such as Fluent, 6Sigma and STAR-CCM+
• OpenFOAM development and/or C++ development in a CFD environment
• Energy modelling or coding platforms such as SketchUp, EnergyPlus, OpenStudio, TRNSYS and Python
• Advantageous: F1 experience, Python, C++ and Unix shell scripting
