About the role
The Singapore Institute of Technology seeks a Senior Research Fellow to lead technical work on sustainable geomaterials for land reclamation, bridging laboratory research to pilot and field implementation.
Key responsibilities
- Support the Principal Investigator in planning, executing and delivering the research project, ensuring milestones are met on time and within budget.
- Provide technical leadership in developing carbonation‑engineered geomaterials such as demolition fines and incineration bottom ash.
- Design and oversee experimental programmes, including laboratory testing, pilot‑scale trials and field validation.
- Translate research findings into engineering solutions, material specifications and implementation methodologies for industry adoption.
- Lead scale‑up of aqueous carbonation processes to prototype and pilot systems.
- Supervise and mentor research staff, allocate tasks and monitor progress.
- Coordinate with industry partners and vendors on technical matters, trials and site implementation.
- Identify and resolve technical challenges related to material variability, process scalability and environmental compliance.
- Oversee environmental performance assessment, including leachate testing and regulatory alignment.
- Prepare technical reports, journal publications and presentations for stakeholders and funding agencies.
Required profile
- PhD in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering or related discipline with at least 10 years of relevant industry or research experience, or a Bachelor’s/Master’s with at least 15 years.
- Proven experience leading technical components of research or engineering projects and supervising junior staff.
- Experience in experimental programme design, laboratory and/or field testing, and data‑driven engineering evaluation.
- Familiarity with material treatment or processing methods such as stabilisation or carbonation is advantageous.
- Experience in industry collaboration, pilot‑scale implementation or technology translation is advantageous.
