Senior Research Fellow (Polymer Upcycling)

About the role

The School of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) at NTU is recruiting a Senior Research Fellow to work on green and scalable mechanical or chemical polymer upcycling technologies, particularly for polyurethane. The group covers macromolecular and hybrid materials, including polymer science, composite science, environmental science and sustainable materials.

Key responsibilities

• Develop green and scalable mechanical or chemical polymer upcycling technologies, especially for polyurethane.
• Carry out R&D on polymer pre-treatment and upcycling, including defining the problem statement, designing and running lab-scale and pilot-scale experiments, sample characterisation and data analysis.
• Engage current and future industrial and academic collaborators to move the technology from lab-scale verification to pilot implementation.
• Prepare technical reports, intellectual property documents, safety documents and academic publications.

Required profile

• PhD in Materials Science, Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering or a related field.
• At least 6-8 years of graduate study or working experience in R&D on polymer science, chemical engineering and green technologies.
• Leadership experience managing multi-disciplinary projects.
• Experience preparing academic and pilot-operation proposals.
• Wet-lab practice and awareness of laboratory safety.
• Industrial experience in polymer upcycling and productization is favourable.

Required skills

• Hands-on and characterisation techniques such as TGA, DSC, FTIR, DMA, rheology, NMR, CHNS, XRD, XPS and engineering design and drawing.
• Good communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills.
• Software for process design, mass balance, cost analysis and life-cycle analysis is favourable.
