Senior / Staff Engineer - Firmware Development (SSD)

About the role

Micron is hiring a Senior / Staff Engineer for Firmware Development (SSD) to support the development, validation, optimization and debugging of high-performance SSD controller firmware for volatile and non-volatile memory solutions. The role works with cross-functional engineering teams, mentors less experienced engineers and contributes to firmware quality, reliability, performance and power-efficiency.

Key responsibilities

• Develop firmware IP subsystems for SSD products meeting performance, endurance, capacity, functionality, quality and reliability requirements.
• Carry out firmware development, integration, bench testing, debugging and validation for SSD controllers and storage products.
• Perform root cause analysis, failure triage and defect isolation, documenting findings and supporting corrective actions.
• Develop and maintain unit, functional and integration tests.
• Work with hardware, validation, system and product engineering teams to resolve complex issues and improve product readiness.
• Analyze firmware behavior and support improvements in performance, latency, power consumption and SoC complexity.
• Provide technical updates, project status reports and development summaries to management and stakeholders.
• Mentor junior engineers and technicians and share knowledge.
• Use AI-assisted tools responsibly and share AI-enabled improvements.

Required profile

• B.Sc. or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent.
• Over 3 years of relevant experience in firmware or embedded systems development using C.
• Structured problem-solving, clear technical communication, cross-functional collaboration and ability to work independently.
• Preferred: experience with SSD products, storage systems, NAND flash and NVMe interfaces.

Required skills

• Embedded firmware development in C and other high-level languages such as Python.
• Firmware debugging, code analysis, root cause investigation and low-level software including assembly.
• Preferred: Python automation, PCIe and NVMe, and baseline digital fluency and AI literacy.
