Senior Unix System Administrator

About the role

BCS, a wholly owned subsidiary of Network for Electronic Transfers (NETS) and part of the NETS Group, manages and operates clearing and payment infrastructure for the Singapore Automated Clearing House, including FAST, Inter-bank GIRO, Cheque Truncation System, PayNow and SGQR. The Infrastructure Services Team supports the resilience, security and high performance of BCS' technology infrastructure, including networks, servers, storage, middleware and databases. This role manages and maintains the Unix environment so that production systems supporting critical online payment services remain available and performant.

Key responsibilities

• Administer and maintain a heterogeneous environment of Sun Solaris and Linux servers across production, DR and test, and perform upgrades and enhancements
• Apply OS and product-specific security hardening and patches, and monitor obsolescence of infrastructure components
• Renew system passwords and certificates, and run scheduled backups and database archives
• Develop and test disaster recovery plans, including regular switchover exercises
• Manage the application UAT environment and document middleware platforms and infrastructure
• Provide Level 3 technical support to end users and other IT resources
• Resolve incidents and problems within SLAs, diagnose root causes and prevent recurrence
• Schedule and release production changes, create deployment packages, and maintain a configuration database of hardware and software
• Monitor capacity, tune performance, and implement IT service management processes aligned with security policies
• Support projects and manage infrastructure enhancements, and maintain technical and process documentation

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science or a related field
• At least 8 years of experience in system administration and support for middleware, Unix and Linux systems
• Ability to provide 24/7 support on a rostered basis, including weekends and after-hours support for critical production changes
• Excellent communication, analytical and problem-solving skills; able to work independently and in a team

Required skills

• Experience with SAN for Unix and Linux platforms
• OS hardening and patching, enterprise backup and monitoring software
• Scripting for Unix and Linux automation
• Database administration and data centre operations knowledge is an advantage
• Unix and Linux Certified System Administrator certifications; public cloud administration certification preferred
