Staff Material Scientist

About the role

KLA, a global leader in electronics for the semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem, is looking for a highly motivated Research Scientist to join its team focused on developing advanced inorganic materials for cutting-edge applications. The successful candidate will design, synthesize and characterize complex inorganic compounds, working closely with other scientists and engineers. The role sits within the Office of the Chief Technology Officer, which develops advanced long-range technology such as light sources, lasers and sensors.

Key responsibilities

• Design and synthesize inorganic compounds and solid-state materials.
• Optimize reaction conditions to achieve high-purity, well-defined material structures.
• Perform material characterization using techniques such as TGA, XRD, SEM and XPS.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including optics engineers, opto-mechanical engineers and laser scientists, to carry out failure analysis and ensure the feasibility of new materials and processes for KLA products.

Required profile

• Minimum qualifications: doctorate with 3 years of related work experience, master's degree with 6 years, or bachelor's degree with 8 years of related work experience.
• Strong practical skills in experimental synthesis.
• Strong team player with a positive, proactive attitude, and excellent problem-solving and communication skills.

Required skills

• Inorganic compound synthesis, sintering, material science, surface science, phase transfer science and solid-state chemistry.
• Familiarity with optics materials such as non-linear optics is a plus.
• Proficiency in structural characterization tools: TGA, XRD, SEM and XPS.
