Staff Plasma Physics Research Scientist

About the role

KLA, a global leader in electronics for the semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem, is hiring a Staff Plasma Physics Research Scientist in Singapore. The role sits in the Office of the Chief Technology Officer, which develops advanced long-range technologies such as light sources, lasers and sensors, and works with product divisions and strategic marketing. The CTO group performs simulations and experiments to understand light-matter interaction in laser-sustained plasma systems.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct new laser-sustained plasma investigations, including plasma system performance simulations, experimental design and research setup construction.
• Carry out independent and collaborative research to characterise plasma and analyse experimental data to demonstrate desired plasma performance.
• Develop architectures for LSP prototypes, balancing performance, reliability, serviceability and cost.
• Work with laser and optics research scientists and target manufacturing experts to build new experimental platforms that prove feasibility and reduce technical risk.
• Document and present concepts, designs and experimental data, and collaborate with laser, optical, mechanical, electrical and software colleagues to reach release targets.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Physics, Engineering or a closely related field.
• Sound academic training in plasma physics, fluid mechanics, nuclear physics, atomic physics or a related field.
• Experience building and operating complex optical benches.
• Familiarity with laser-induced or sustained plasma, nuclear physics or high-energy physics approaches and challenges.
• Team player with good written and verbal communication skills.

Required skills

• System-level laser-sustained plasma performance studies, both experimentally and through simulation.
• COMSOL or Ansys for plasma simulations.
• Data analysis with IDL, MATLAB or Python.
