System Engineer - Metrology & Inspection

About the role

KLA, a global leader in electronics for the semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem, is looking for a System Engineer within its Global Products Group (GPG). The GPG creates metrology and inspection products, and the Surfscan group focuses on tools that let wafer, IC and equipment manufacturers develop, qualify and monitor their process tools. The role covers system integration, troubleshooting and performance evaluation of metrology systems.

Key responsibilities

• Perform system integration, testing, characterization and specification validation to ensure product performance and readiness.
• Lead system-level troubleshooting and root cause analysis for manufacturing, customer and field escalations, driving corrective actions.
• Run system performance evaluations, including error budgeting, measurement uncertainty analysis and performance gap assessments.
• Design and run experiments, qualification plans and characterization studies to support issue resolution and product validation.
• Work with hardware, software, algorithm and applications teams to resolve system-level issues and new requirements.
• Provide technical leadership for product ramp support, including tool builds, customer installations, qualification activities and field investigations.
• Develop and maintain troubleshooting methodologies, test procedures, best practices and technical documentation.

Required profile

• PhD in science or engineering, or a doctorate with 0 years of related work experience.
• Master's degree with 3 years of related work experience.
• Bachelor's degree with 5 years of related work experience.
• Ability to communicate across functions to close complex technical issues.

Required skills

• Strong system-level troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
• Understanding of metrology systems, calibration, uncertainty analysis and error budgeting.
• Hands-on experience with electromechanical, optical, automation, sensing or precision instrumentation systems.
• System integration, experiment design, performance characterization, DOE, GRR, ANOVA and statistical analysis.
• Data analysis and modeling with Python, MATLAB, JMP or similar tools.
