System Engineer (Optics)

About the role

KLA's Semiconductor Products and Customers (Semi PC) business unit designs, builds and sells inspection, metrology and analytics systems that help chip manufacturers meet high-quality standards for AI, data centers, automotive and electronic devices. The LS-SWIFT division delivers high-throughput patterned wafer inspection systems. This System Engineer (Optics) role contributes to business priorities with hands-on work on optical inspection and metrology tools.

Key responsibilities

• Subsystem design and development, system integration, test and characterization
• System troubleshooting, new product introduction and escalation support
• Define system and subsystem specifications
• Document manufacturing procedures
• Derive and manage detailed systems design requirements and drive systems validation following the PLC process
• Support escalation and beta on-site characterization
• Cover all aspects of manufacturing introduction: design for manufacturability, quality, tooling, training, process documentation, product structure, build process optimization and facilities requirements

Required profile

• Advanced degree in applied optics, electrical engineering, applied physics or a related discipline
• Doctorate (academic) OR Master's degree with at least 3 years of experience OR Bachelor's degree with at least 5 years of experience
• Proven track record of technical development and issue resolution, and comfort leading a focused team
• Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills in optics, opto-mechanics and motion control systems

Required skills

• Extensive hands-on experience building and testing optical inspection or metrology tools
• Experience with complex optical-mechanical systems or assemblies, and with optoelectronics, sensors, microscopy, optics or systems design
• Good understanding of imaging processing systems and algorithms
• Familiarity with Python and JavaScript is a plus
