TBM Operator – Tunnel Boring Machine Specialist

About the role

The TBM Operator will be responsible for the full control and operation of Herrenknecht tunnel boring machines (TBM) on complex tunnelling projects. You will ensure safe, efficient, and continuous machine performance while coordinating with the project team.

Key responsibilities

• Operate AVN800, AVN1000, AVN2000 and AVN3000 TBM machines, including jack and laser settings.
• Perform major repairs such as gearbox, seal and valve replacements.
• Carry out regular maintenance on accessories like desander units, slurry pumps, feed pumps, bentonite machines, high‑pressure pumps and intermediate jacking stations.
• Manage bentonite application using automatic stations and adjust cycles for varying ground conditions.
• Monitor machine performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement modifications to cutting heads to improve production.
• Execute pipe‑jacking and tunnelling tasks, including entrance ring installation and pipe pushing.
• Work independently to meet schedule targets, typically 5.5 days per week.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of hands‑on experience operating TBM machines.
• Proven ability to work autonomously and adhere to project timelines.
• Experience in pipe‑jacking or tunnel boring projects.

Required skills

• Operation of Herrenknecht TBM machines (AVN800/AVN1000/AVN2000/AVN3000).
• Jack setting and laser alignment for various machine diameters.
• Bentonite station operation and cycle management.
• Maintenance of gearboxes, seals, valves, desander units, slurry pumps, feed pumps, high‑pressure pumps, and jacking stations.
• Ability to modify cutting heads and perform machine upgrades.
