Assistant Director / Manager, Contingency Management & Emergency Preparedness

About the role

This role is part of the team that formulates, develops and reviews adaptive contingency plans and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for peacetime crises and emergencies. It also plans, designs and runs training and exercises to keep operational readiness high. When activated, the officer works within SFA and with Whole of Government ministries and agencies to assess situations and manage the execution of contingency plans. The position reports to the Deputy Director (Contingency Management & Emergency Preparedness).

Key responsibilities

• Initiate, formulate, develop and implement scenario-specific contingency plans so SFA can respond quickly to incidents affecting its operations or mission.
• Engage internal and external stakeholders to monitor and keep plans current, and run periodic reviews to ensure they remain fit for purpose.
• Coordinate responses and management across SFA and government ministries and agencies during peacetime crises and emergencies.
• Maintain situation awareness, identify threats to the mission and provide timely impact assessments of incidents.
• Plan, design and execute SFA-level operational training management plans and exercises.
• Support crisis decision-making through quarterly decision-making platforms chaired by the CEO.

Required profile

• Degree or equivalent relevant certification, preferably with 2 years of experience in contingency planning and crisis management.
• Able to manage complex, interrelated issues and cope with uncertainty and ambiguity in information analysis.
• Able to work independently under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment and as part of a team.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with stakeholder engagement experience inside and outside the organisation.
• Strong command of written and spoken English, able to speak and present to large audiences.
