Assistant Director, Research and Infrastructure Safety

About the role

The Office of Health and Safety at Nanyang Technological University seeks an experienced leader to direct research and infrastructure safety across the campus. You will shape safety policy, guide high‑risk projects, and ensure a safe environment for staff, students and visitors.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, review and enhance university‑wide safety policies, standards and governance frameworks for research and infrastructure projects.
• Drive implementation and continuous improvement of safety and health management systems across research centres.
• Lead, mentor and manage a team of safety and health officers covering construction, facilities and infrastructure programmes.
• Provide strategic advice to senior management, deans, department heads and principal investigators on complex safety matters.
• Conduct safety and health audits and inspections, delivering risk‑based reports with actionable recommendations.
• Lead or support accident and incident investigations, identifying root causes and system‑level improvements.
• Oversee planning, implementation and optimisation of IT and AI‑enabled health‑safety management systems.
• Design and deliver targeted safety training for staff and students, focusing on construction and facilities hazards.
• Liaise with government ministries, regulatory authorities and external agencies on compliance and audits.

Required profile

• Degree in Science, Engineering or a related discipline; postgraduate qualification in safety, health or environmental science is preferred.
• At least 10 years of relevant safety & health experience, with proven programme management.
• Professional certifications such as MOM‑registered Safety Officer or Lead Auditor for OHSMS are advantageous.
