Assistant Engineer - Environmental Monitoring

About the role

SGS, a global leader in testing, inspection and certification, is hiring an Assistant Engineer in Singapore for its Environmental Services. The role provides technical support for environmental, health and safety projects, carries out field monitoring according to approved procedures and supports the day-to-day running of the department.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare tools, instruments and documentation needed for tasks.
• Determine the sampling methodology for each sampling job.
• Conduct site surveys, obtain samples for laboratory analysis and prepare draft field reports on pollution monitoring.
• Coordinate with laboratory staff for quality testing and client requirements.
• Research instrument specifications and raise purchase requisitions for equipment.
• Ensure the department's quality system is fully implemented and that operations meet client and industry health and safety requirements.
• Carry out other tasks as required by management.

Required profile

• Minimum NITEC qualification.
• Prior field experience in environmental services or testing is an advantage.
• Able to work independently and coordinate several activities at once.
• Able to work on board a vessel for environmental monitoring.
• Good communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and to deliver high-quality results on time.

Required skills

• Technical knowledge of the related field and use of quality management methods and tools.
• Ability to interact with management, suppliers and clients.
