Associate/Assistant Professor of Microbiome

About the role

The Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) is seeking a tenure-track Associate/Assistant Professor of Microbiome. The appointee contributes to research and teaching at the School, focusing on microbiology research in the Microbiome Medicine Research Programme, and works under the direction of the Vice Dean, Research and the Dean.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out high-quality research in microbiome or microbial bioinformatics, obtain research funding and supervise research staff and students
• Teach and train medical students and postgraduate research students, using team-based learning and e-learning, and integrate microbiology into the MBBS curriculum
• Develop and fund research proposals, publish in international peer-reviewed journals, review manuscripts and grant applications, and seek competitive grant and industry funding
• Supervise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students, and mentor junior faculty and research staff
• Collaborate on interdisciplinary research projects with other faculty in Microbiome Medicine and across NTU
• Take part in academic committees and other administrative duties as assigned

Required profile

• MBBS/MD and/or PhD degree
• Relevant postdoctoral or clinical experience
• Significant experience and an outstanding record of translational clinical research and teaching in microbiology or microbiome medicine
• Experience with human microbiome and metagenomic data is an advantage
• Track record of supervising graduate students to successful PhD completion is desirable

• Effective communication, strong presentation skills and ability to motivate others
• Desirable: ability to build teams and networks nationally and internationally, and a fully conversant understanding of patient-centred medicine and new technologies in education and care

The appointment is at 1.0 full-time equivalent (FTE).
