Backend Software Engineer - Java / Spring Boot

About the role

Decathlon Singapore is hiring a Backend Software Engineer in its Digital & Information Systems department, within the IT Engineering job family. The role supports e-commerce development and operations across APAC, designing, building and maintaining scalable backend solutions in Java and Spring Boot, turning business requirements into stable, high-performance microservices.

Key responsibilities

• Write clean, reusable, testable and maintainable Java / Spring Boot code, handling edge cases and errors
• Work with Product Managers, Engineering Managers and business stakeholders to scope, estimate and deploy features
• Design robust RESTful APIs following HTTP standards and data formats such as JSON and XML
• Apply design patterns to microservices, evaluate trade-offs and ensure high availability
• Uphold quality through peer reviews, clean code and unit/integration tests, and follow security guidelines
• Maintain technical documentation, including API specs, architecture decision records, diagrams and wiki pages
• Implement secure APIs (OAuth 2.0) and build error logging, reporting and monitoring
• Share knowledge, take part in tech initiatives and keep learning

Required profile

• 3+ years of backend software engineering experience
• Strong hands-on mastery of Java and Spring Boot
• Deep understanding of RESTful API design, HTTP status codes/methods and OAuth 2.0 security
• Experience with relational databases and asynchronous messaging systems
• Familiarity with cloud-native microservices, containerization, Kubernetes, Git and CI/CD pipelines
• Proven success in Agile environments and good communication skills
• E-commerce experience is an advantage
