Director of Assurance – Public Sector

About the role

The Director (Assurance) will act as a trusted advisor and strategic partner to senior leadership across ministries and statutory boards. This senior position leads high‑performing internal audit teams, drives digital innovation, and expands the risk lens to include technology, cybersecurity and sustainability.

Key responsibilities

• Direct planning, management and execution of risk‑based audit engagements for agencies within the AGD portfolio, ensuring timely delivery and high quality.
• Develop a forward‑looking audit universe that captures emerging risks and aligns audit priorities with public‑sector governance.
• Champion agile audit methodologies and design shorter, iterative audit cycles for faster insights.
• Lead integration of data analytics, robotic process automation (RPA) and AI‑assisted audit tools, and oversee adoption of audit management platforms.
• Provide strategic advisory to C‑suite leaders, translating complex findings into actionable governance improvements.
• Build a community of practice with IA heads, creating shared frameworks, toolkits and upskilling programmes.

Required profile

• Extensive experience leading internal audit functions in the public sector or large organisations.
• Proven track record of driving digital transformation and agile methodologies within audit teams.
• Strong advisory skills with the ability to engage senior government leaders.
• Deep understanding of emerging risk areas such as IT general controls, cybersecurity, third‑party risk and ESG governance.
