Executive / Senior Executive (Food Safety Enforcement)

About the role

SFA's mission is to ensure and secure a supply of safe food for Singapore. This Executive / Senior Executive joins SFA's enforcement team to make sure food in Singapore is wholesome and safe for human consumption. The work is based at the SFA Central Regional Office.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect and survey local food establishments (retail, non-retail, farms, livestock-slaughtering facilities) for compliance with food safety and hygiene requirements.
• Inspect and sample imported food, follow up with importers on missed inspections and handle food that fails regulatory tests.
• Initiate and coordinate food recalls of unsafe food.
• Handle food safety feedback in licensed establishments, including One Health and non-One Health gastroenteritis incidents.
• Investigate and follow up on public and industry complaints about local food establishments, often working across government agencies.
• Enforce food safety legislation and licensing conditions, including standing in court for prosecution cases.
• Run targeted operations to deter unsafe food practices, including developing public communication materials.
• Advise SFA licensees on regulatory and food safety requirements and support service of exigencies.

Required profile

• Prior experience or knowledge in Food Science, Food Technology, Chemistry, Life Sciences, Biology or another science discipline.
• Previous experience in the food industry or enforcement work is an advantage.
• Team player with good interpersonal skills; willing to work outside normal office hours and shift work.
• Open to job rotation within SFA, such as industry and community partnership, media and communications, licensing, facilities management, corporate and policy/planning.

Required skills

• Good communication, interpersonal and writing skills.
• Basic Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Data analysis tools and software knowledge is a plus.
• A valid Class 3 driving licence is an advantage.
