In-house Legal Counsel – Maritime Law

About the role

Join a leading international maritime organization as an In‑house Legal Counsel. You will provide comprehensive legal support across commercial, operational, regulatory and dispute matters, helping the business navigate complex maritime and shipping issues.

Key responsibilities

• Advise on a wide range of maritime, shipping, commercial and corporate matters.
• Draft, review, negotiate and counsel on commercial agreements such as charter parties, service agreements, procurement contracts, agency agreements and NDAs.
• Identify and mitigate legal risks related to vessel management, cargo transportation, logistics and other maritime activities.
• Support dispute management, including claims, arbitrations and litigation, coordinating with external counsel as needed.
• Provide guidance on regulatory compliance, sanctions, trade compliance, anti‑bribery, competition law and maritime regulations.
• Assist with incident response, risk management, cargo claims, vessel incidents and insurance issues.
• Contribute to corporate governance by reviewing internal policies, procedures and legal documentation.
• Monitor legal and regulatory developments affecting the maritime sector and advise stakeholders.

Required profile

• Qualified lawyer with a minimum of 3 years post‑qualification experience.
• Background in maritime, shipping, admiralty, transportation or related commercial law.
• Experience in reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts within shipping, logistics, offshore or marine sectors.
• Familiarity with charter parties, bills of lading, maritime claims, marine insurance and shipping disputes is advantageous.
• Knowledge of international trade, sanctions and regulatory compliance preferred.
• Strong drafting, negotiation and stakeholder management abilities.
• Commercially minded with the capacity to deliver practical, business‑focused legal advice.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
