Legal Counsel (Shipping)

About the role

This position is part of a global legal and compliance team for a leading shipping company. The Legal Counsel will provide commercially‑focused advice across international operations, supporting business growth while managing legal risk.

Key responsibilities

• Advise on maritime, shipping and related regulatory matters.
• Draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements, contracts and partnership documents.
• Support corporate transactions, including M&A, joint ventures and financing arrangements.
• Provide guidance on corporate governance, structuring and compliance frameworks.
• Monitor legal and regulatory developments and assist with dispute and insurance matters.

Required profile

• Law degree from a recognised university.
• Minimum five years of post‑qualification experience in private practice, in‑house, or a combination thereof.
• Experience in maritime, shipping, commercial or corporate law is advantageous.
• Commercially minded with strong analytical, drafting and negotiation abilities.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, capable of working independently in a fast‑paced international environment.
