Legal Specialist – Consumer Protection & Data Privacy

About the role

The Legal Specialist will provide legal and policy support across the Consumers’ Association of Singapore (CASE) to help promote a fair, consumer‑friendly market. Working closely with internal departments, external agencies and regulators, the role contributes to dispute resolution, data protection compliance and consumer education initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review and negotiate contracts, agreements and other legal documents for CASE’s various departments.
• Analyse consumer disputes and advise on actions in line with the Consumer Protection (Fair Trading) Act.
• Engage with businesses and external agencies to resolve consumer complaints.
• Support data‑protection and consumer‑education matters, including serving as CASE’s designated Data Protection Officer.
• Provide secretariat support for the Consumer Law Review Committee, preparing papers and coordinating approvals.
• Respond to public consultations on consumer‑related policy issues.
• Participate in projects, research and initiatives assigned by the Executive Director.

Required profile

• A recognised tertiary degree in law from a reputable university.
• Relevant experience in legal, data protection, compliance, policy, dispute resolution or regulatory functions is advantageous.
• Strong analytical and writing abilities, with a self‑motivated attitude.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a keen interest in current affairs and consumer trends.
