Principal / Staff Engineer, Embedded Security Firmware (SSD)

About the role

Micron Technology is hiring a Principal / Staff Engineer for embedded security firmware development focused on SSD products. The engineer creates and integrates security firmware IP used in SSDs, covering the product development lifecycle from inception to obsolescence, and supports the development and quality assurance processes so the firmware consistently meets functionality, security, usability, reliability and performance targets.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and test security firmware IP subsystems for SSD products that meet or exceed the technical specification matrix, covering security, performance, functionality and quality/reliability.
• Develop firmware unit and functional tests to ensure the firmware subsystem meets quality, functional and performance requirements at each integration milestone.
• Provide detailed, accurate and summarized information to management and the firmware team on project status and activities.
• Build collaborative relationships with peers and management, and support the personal and technical development of the team.
• Use AI-assisted tools responsibly to improve efficiency and quality, and share AI-enabled improvements within scope.

Required profile

• PhD in Computer or Electrical Engineering with 2+ years of embedded firmware development experience, or a Bachelor's/master's degree with 5+ years of relevant experience.
• Embedded security domain knowledge and experience is an advantage.
• Experience in storage, storage systems or a related technology is an advantage.

Required skills

• Programming languages such as C, C++ and Rust, and programming tools and environments.
• Storage interfaces, ideally PCIe/NVMe, SATA or SAS.
• NAND flash and other non-volatile storage.
• Software debugging, modification and code problem resolution.
• Python is an advantage; baseline digital fluency and role-appropriate AI literacy.
