R&D Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

This role is responsible for designing engineering solutions and leading a project team of other mechanical hardware engineers, together with internal and outsourced development partners, to build reliable, cost-effective and high-quality solutions. It works with management and internal teams to develop moderately complex products, while contributing to process efficiencies and resolving challenges.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver product designs and assemblies to production on time, within budget and to specification (functionality, reliability, safety and performance).
• Develop and implement test plans and parameters for new and existing designs, including validation of tolerances, form/fit/function, shock and vibration, electromagnetic interference, safety, reliability, fan curves, system power measurements and acoustics.
• Communicate with management, internal teams and outsourced partners on design status, project progress and issue resolution.
• Manage relationships with outsourced partners and suppliers, covering deliverables, quality, schedules and costs, and ensure team members collaborate effectively with them.
• Lead a project team of mechanical hardware engineers and partners to deliver reliable, cost-effective solutions for moderately complex products.
• Generate process efficiencies through quality documentation and project management, and solve problems using technical experience and judgment.
• Mentor less experienced staff members.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline, or commensurate work experience and demonstrated competence.
• Typically 4-10 years of experience in engineering design and solutions across the hardware development lifecycle, or an advanced degree with 3-5 years of relevant experience.
