Research Assistant – CO2 Capture Materials

About the role
The Nanyang Environment and Water Research Institute (NEWRI) at NTU is seeking a Research Assistant to support its CO2 capture project. You will work on developing and scaling sorbent materials for real combustion flue gas, contributing to the institute's sustainability and climate‑resilience goals.
Key responsibilities
- Coordinate project execution and communication among collaborating parties.
- Collaborate with the Principal Investigator and Co‑Investigators on experimental design, execution, troubleshooting and data analysis.
- Develop calcium‑based sorbent materials for CO2 capture from real flue gas.
- Scale up sorbent production and manage day‑to‑day reactor operation.
- Procure raw materials, consumables and research equipment.
- Write and publish research papers and prepare progress, final and scientific recommendation reports.
- Communicate research findings to collaborators, funding agencies and the scientific community.
- Train research associates/assistants on project‑specific techniques.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Materials Science or a related field.
- Experience developing CO2 sorbents, especially calcium‑based sorbents for circulating fluidized beds.
- Knowledge of incineration ash treatment and reutilisation is highly desired.
- Record of peer‑reviewed publications is advantageous.
- Strong scientific writing and reporting skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and teamwork abilities.
