Research Associate / Fellow – Molecular Genetics & Functional Genomics

About the role
The School of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology at NTU Singapore, in partnership with Wageningen University & Research, is seeking a Research Associate or Research Fellow to advance indoor farming innovations. The role focuses on discovering resistance genes in Brassica through effectoromics, pathogen genome analysis, and functional screening to support Singapore’s goal of 20% local food production by 2035.
Key responsibilities
- Generate and analyse DNA and RNA sequences of selected Brassica pathogens.
- Predict effector proteins and clone them into expression vectors.
- Design and execute effectoromics screens using Brassica cultivars and wild germplasm.
- Develop and perform disease assays tailored for indoor farming environments.
- Identify, clone, and validate resistance genes.
- Document findings and contribute to scientific reports, publications, and presentations.
Required profile
- For Research Associate: Master’s degree in Molecular Plant‑Microbe Interactions, Biotechnology, Molecular Genetics, Functional Genomics or related field.
- For Research Fellow: PhD in Plant Biotechnology, Molecular Genetics, Functional Genomics or a closely related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience with plant molecular biology, genomics, and genetic analysis.
- Strong background in plant‑microbe interactions and effector biology.
- Excellent communication and analytical skills.
