About the role
The Maritime Energy & Sustainable Development Centre of Excellence at Nanyang Technological University is seeking a Research Associate to advance low‑carbon solutions for shipping and ports. The role bridges academic innovation with industry application, supporting Singapore’s ambition to become a global maritime knowledge hub.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct research on maritime energy alternatives, including bio‑fuels, ammonia, methanol, biomethane, ethanol and electrification pathways.
- Collect, analyse and model data on ship operations, emissions and energy consumption.
- Prepare progress reports, technical papers and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
- Support business development through proposal writing and research funding acquisition.
- Drive translational outcomes such as technology disclosures, IP filings and technology deployment with industry partners.
Required profile
- Master’s degree in Marine Engineering, Chemical Engineering or a related discipline with strong academic results.
- At least one year of experience in energy research or hands‑on work related to shipping, ports or maritime energy systems.
- Self‑motivated, research‑oriented and able to work independently under tight deadlines.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
Required skills
- Understanding of shipping, port operations and greenhouse‑gas management.
- Data analysis and modelling capabilities.
- Proficiency in information visualisation and presentation.
