Research Engineer II – Field Application Engineer

About the role

As a Research Engineer II – Field Application Engineer at NTU, you will drive the development and deployment of microgrid technologies and clean‑energy solutions. You will work across campus testbeds and partner sites, ensuring safe, reliable operation of high‑voltage distribution networks.

Key responsibilities

• Design, maintain and operate SCADA, GUI/HMI, PLC programs and edge devices.
• Create APIs for cloud‑based applications and digitally integrate new assets.
• Review electrical power system drawings, commission hardware/software for microgrid field operations.
• Manage electrical system operations at NTU testbed sites (e.g., NTU campus, Jurong Island, Semakau Landfill) and coordinate with industry partners and licensed electricians.
• Supervise contractors to meet regulatory and compliance requirements.
• Conduct field activities on‑site and support project milestones.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering with a focus on power systems or automation.
• 3‑5 years of hands‑on experience in electrical system design, analysis and field supervision.
• Familiarity with Singapore Standard Code of Practices for electrical installations, solar inverters, ESS and EV chargers.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work independently under tight timelines.

Required skills

• AutoCAD for electrical design.
• Grid communication protocols: Modbus TCP, IEC61850, DNP3.
• PLC programming.
• SCADA, GUI/HMI development and API creation.
• Electrical system design and power‑systems analysis.
