Research Fellow – Acoustical Engineering

About the role

The Singapore Institute of Technology seeks a Research Fellow to lead an interdisciplinary project developing ultrasonic solutions for biofouling prevention on marine vessels. The role combines structural acoustics, finite element simulation, transducer design, and marine biology.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design, fabrication, and integration of ultrasonic transducer systems for antifouling applications on hull structures.
• Conduct advanced numerical simulations using ANSYS or equivalent FEM tools to model surface acoustic wave propagation.
• Design and execute laboratory and field testing protocols to evaluate antifouling effectiveness and environmental safety.
• Analyse multi‑domain datasets (acoustic, mechanical, biological) and produce technical reports, journal papers, and IP documentation.
• Coordinate interdisciplinary teams of students and researchers across marine biology, mechanical engineering, and naval architecture.

Required profile

• PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Acoustics, Marine Engineering, or a related field.
• Demonstrated expertise in ultrasonic systems and wave propagation (advantageous).
• Proven track record of independent research with high‑impact publications.

Required skills

• Finite element modeling (ANSYS or equivalent).
• Design and prototyping of ultrasonic transducers and related electronics.
• Understanding of piezoelectric materials and vibration measurement techniques.
• Experience with experimental design and marine equipment testing.
