Research Fellow (Biological Physics)

About the role

The School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Singapore is seeking two Research Fellows to contribute to a project on the collective motion of bacteria and the mechanics of bacterial colonies and biofilms. The project combines experiments, theory and numerical simulations, with one fellow focusing on experiments and the other on theory and simulations. The position is based at the NTU Main Campus.

Key responsibilities

• Design experimental systems and perform experimental measurements.
• Process experimental data and analyse the results.
• Implement numerical calculations to simulate the collective behaviour of bacteria.
• Build theoretical models to describe or explain the experimental or numerical results.
• Help organise the research lab.
• Help train other members of the lab, such as undergraduate students.

Required profile

• PhD (or equivalent) in biophysics, soft matter physics, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering or a related field.
• Good written and oral communication skills.
• Competence in soft skills such as information visualisation and oral presentation.
• Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment.
• Entry-level candidates are welcome to apply.

Required skills

• Experimental techniques such as microscopy, microfluidics or rheology, OR
• Molecular dynamics simulation or agent-based simulation.
