Research Fellow – Mechanical Design & Actuator Integration

About the role

The AUMOVIO‑NTU Corp Lab seeks a Research Fellow to lead applied research on meta‑material mechanisms and advanced actuators for automotive applications. You will work closely with industry partners and academic institutions to develop innovative mechatronic solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct research on advanced mechatronic elements, meta‑material mechanisms, and smart‑material actuators for automotive integration.
• Screen, select, and develop actuator technologies, materials, and mechanisms for product integration.
• Define actuator designs, integration approaches, and reliability testing from mechanical and chemical perspectives.
• Support qualification processes and perform failure analysis.
• Scout and benchmark actuator technologies and contribute to technology roadmaps.
• Perform market research, maintain design and prototype databases, and recommend solutions for projects.
• Collaborate with institutions on materials evaluation, mechanical design, and integration technologies.
• Document projects, prepare technical reports, and manage engineering tasks to meet timelines.

Required profile

• PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field with at least 1 year of relevant experience.
• Advanced knowledge of mechanical metamaterials, mechanisms, actuator technologies, manufacturing processes, and instrumentation.
• Strong understanding of mechatronic systems, integration methods, and manufacturing processes.
• Hands‑on experience in actuator and electro‑mechanical characterization, including mechanical testing, DMA, and optional SEM/EDS/XRD microscopy.
• Proven ability to work in cross‑functional and international teams.
